Dr. Ian Kratter is an Advising Medical Director at Salma Health, where he helps lead the design and delivery of our interventional clinical model as part of Salma Health’s clinical leadership team. In this role, he shapes clinical strategy, develops the protocols and systems that support safety and quality, integrates advanced interventional therapies and guides the launch and growth of new clinics. His work is central to Salma’s approach to delivering personalized, predictive and measurable brain health care at scale.
Dr. Kratter is an adult psychiatrist and fellowship-trained neuropsychiatrist with deep expertise in interventional and precision psychiatry. His clinical and research work spans depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, movement disorders, and complex neuropsychiatric illness, with a focus on neuromodulatory and novel pharmacological treatments, including repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, deep brain stimulation and biomarker-guided interventions. He brings a rigorous, evidence-based approach to care grounded in both neuroscience and clinical practice.
In addition to his role at Salma Health, Dr. Kratter is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine and a senior leader in the Stanford Brain Stimulation Laboratory. His research focuses on the mechanisms and outcomes of neuromodulation and emerging treatments through clinical and translational studies, including work combining rTMS and deep brain stimulation with neuroimaging and electrophysiology. He has been a co-investigator on studies in major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, suicidal ideation, and traumatic brain injury and his work has been published in leading journals including Nature Medicine, The American Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Translational Psychiatry, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and World Psychiatry.
