Clinician Bio

Dr. Brandon Bentzley, M.D., Ph.D., is a psychiatrist and neuroscientist dedicated to advancing precision neuromodulation therapies for individuals with severe and treatment-resistant neuropsychiatric conditions. His work focuses on the development and optimization of rapid-acting treatments for brain disorders, bridging clinical research, translational neuroscience and real-world therapeutic implementation.

Dr. Bentzley worked with Dr. Nolan Williams, as Director of Innovation at the Stanford Brain Stimulation Lab, to develop SAINT® (Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation Therapy) — a platform for rapid non-invasive editing of human neural networks. SAINT is FDA-cleared as a personalized, non-invasive, rapid-acting therapy for treatment-resistant major depressive disorder, and the first FDA-cleared neuromodulation therapy utilizing functional connectivity MRI guidance.

In 2020, he co-founded Magnus Medical to support the clinical launch and adoption of SAINT. He also co-founded Salma Health in 2025, where he is advancing next-generation treatment approaches for individuals with complex brain health conditions.

Dr. Bentzley completed his M.D. and Ph.D. through the Medical Scientist TrainingProgram at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where his doctoral research examined the behavioral economics and neuroeconomics of substance use disorders. He later completed residency training in adult psychiatry and post doctoral research at Stanford University.

With more than 20 years of experience in advanced engineering and systems development, including plasma physics research conducted in collaboration withPrinceton University and NASA, Dr. Bentzley brings a uniquely multidisciplinary perspective to therapeutic innovation.

He has published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Brain, American Journal of Psychiatry, Nature, Neuron, Molecular Psychiatry, BiologicalPsychiatry, Journal of Neuroscience, JAMA Network Open, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and World Psychiatry.

Frequently asked questions

Is Salma Health right for me?
If you’re living with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or other mental health challenges and haven’t found the relief you deserve, Salma Health may be a good fit. Our approach combines advanced diagnostics, personalized treatment, and compassionate care to help you find what truly works for you. The first step is a short consultation with our team, we’ll help determine the best path forward together.

Why didn't someone tell me these treatments existed before?
I wish I knew, these are FDA cleared/approved and are not a secret!

How is SAINT® different from other TMS?

SAINT (Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation Therapy) differs from standard TMS by using an accelerated schedule (multiple sessions per day over a few days), a higher total pulse dose, and often individualized targeting of mood-regulating brain networks. The goal is to condense treatment timelines and potentially enhance response for people who haven’t improved with conventional approaches.

How do I know when I should get [more] treatment?
Anytime you aren't feeling like yourself you should check in with your provider. It is best to treat brain disorders before they cause life damage. We only recommend treatments with FDA approval/clearance or treatments with extremely high quality evidence
